Mississippi Market gives $14,000 in grants

Co-op member-owners voted for which organizations would share $14,000 in the grants. The following organizations will receive a grant from Mississippi Market:

Land Stewardship Project – $5,292.00
The Land Stewardship Project fosters an ethic of stewardship for farmland, promoting sustainable agriculture and developing sustainable communities.

Hallie Q. Brown Food Shelf – $4,830.00
Based out of the Hallie Q. Brown at Skyline Towers and 100 N. Oxford Street, the Hallie Q. Brown food shelf’s goal is to assist families in achieving self-sufficiency and self-empowerment, thus reducing their dependency on the food shelf and other services for their health and well-being.

Midwest Food Connection – $3,878.00
Midwest Food Connection (MFC) sends educators into elementary school classrooms to teach about healthy eating, local foods, as well as sustainable and organic agriculture. MFC empowers elementary school children to make healthy and responsible food choices.

 Mississippi Market is proud to support these organizations as each of these exemplifies the co-op’s mission of creating positive change in our community by influencing the production, distribution & enjoyment of food:

  • The Land Stewardship Project is working to increase the supply of food produced in the driftless and western prairie regions, increase profit for the farmers. producing just food and build easier access to it for people.
  • The Hallie Q. Brown foods shelf works to distribute food to those in need.
  • The Midwest Food Connection provides children with opportunities to study, taste and enjoy natural and organic foods.
